Catchment Manager – Ancholme Internal Drainage Board
An exciting opportunity to join the Ancholme Internal Drainage Board, a public body, managing land drainage, flood risk and water levels within the Ancholme Valley from the Humber to Market Rasen and surrounding rural areas. Responsible for maintenance of ordinary watercourses and pumping stations.
You will be based at the Ancholme IDB depot at Castlethorpe. The role will involve general pumping station duties, inspections, maintenance, manual raking of screens, monitoring watercourse maintenance programmes and managing contractors, liaising with clients, monitoring telemetry daily, responding to incident call outs and flood events, meeting with Board Officers, Board Members and general ratepayers, and other duties that may be required to meet the developing needs of the Board
The person we are looking for is a highly motivated individual who can work on their own initiative, has a flexible approach to work and have a willingness to learn. They must have the ability to plan their day-to-day activities with a minimum of supervision and be able to deal with a variety of people ranging from Board Members to Risk Management Authorities (Environment Agency, Councils, Water Authorities) and the public in their daily duties. They must possess a working knowledge of the district and can address all issues promptly. The individual must be physical fit as the position will require walking alongside drains and watercourses and some manual work.
The ability to use a computer and familiarity with the basic Microsoft Office suite of programmes such as outlook, Word, Excel is also prerequisite to able to undertake this role effectively. Reasonable computer skills will also help the successful applicant to learn how to use the telemetry system which controls the 16 pumping stations throughout the district(s).
You will work closely with the Board’s Engineer, who will be your direct line manager, and Clerk to manage the water levels throughout the district.
A full (preferably clean) driving licence will be required as the drainage district(s) cover a wide geographical area.
A competitive salary depending upon experience – 40 hour working week.
